Dear Dr. Bottazzi,

I met you two and a half years ago at a lecture you gave at the University of Utah 's Summer Arts Program.  You gave me a hug and a business card and told me to feel free to e-mail you any time.

I wanted to tell you thank you for sharing your inspirational story.  I am struggling currently with an as yet undiagnosed mental problem as well as with carpal tunnel and heavy anxiety.  I've been striving toward giving my sophomore recital here at the Brigham Young University School of music and feel like my challenges are unmatched.  It is difficult for me to play highly technical works (like Liszt or Chopin) and memorization is proving to be an even larger problem.  The memorization is especially frustrating because it has always come so easily to me in the past and is now presenting an unprecedented problem.  I have been tempted so many times to give up the piano but thanks to your story I know that it is possible to overcome challenges.  Your story has stuck with me through the past three very difficult years and has encouraged me not to give up.  I now have my hour long program 3/4 of the way memorized and half of it technically ready.  The recital is scheduled for May.  It is such a comfort to know that people can accomplish goals in the face of great opposition.

Thank you again for helping me to keep my spirits up.

All the best,
Jennifer Pilling
