Dr. Bruno Giulio Bottazzi

Bruno Giulio Bottazzi was born in Italy and grew up in Argentina.  He began his musical education in Buenos Aires, where he lived for eighteen years.  He studied piano with Tino Rosetti, composition with Gilardo Gilardi, and orchestral conducting with Mariano Drago.

In 1965, he moved with his wife to New York City.   In 1972, he graduated with a masters degree in musical performance in orchestral conducting from the State University of New York, where he was also the assistant conductor for the orchestra.  From 1973 to 1975, Maestro Bottazzi was the musical director of the Marwick Opera Company of Long Island, conducting the orchestra and chorus.  In 1974, he founded the Three Village Orchestra in Long Island.

He continued studying choral conducting with Gregg Smith and orchestral conducting with Karl Bamberger, and later, Sixten Ehrling.   In 1984, Mr. Bottazzi graduated with a Ph.D. from New York University, writing his dissertation on the music of the Argentinean composer Alberto Ginastera.

Since 1986, Bruno Bottazzi has been a guest conductor with many orchestras and music festivals. Because of his interest in American music, he has been involved with the Adirondack Festival of American Music.  From 1991 through 1997, Mr. Bottazzi was the orchestral conductor of the Stony Brook Orchestra.

In addition, since 1968 he has been the co-director and co-founder (with his wife) of one of the New York area's finest music schools, the Pinault School of Music, located in Manhasset, New York.  The school offers instruction in all instruments, with a special emphasis on piano performance

Conductor Bruno Bottazzi and pianist Ana Maria Trenchi Bottazzi have performed together many times.  They recently returned from a tour where they performed with a number of orchestras in South America.  Though they performed many times together, on October 18, 1998, they performed together for the first time at Carnegie Hall, a long-time dream for both of them.
